Zelda, Legend of the Master Sword is built around exploration. The central progression follows the Goddess Sword as you empower it with the three Sacred Flames, but the mod is not a linear quest pack—you can discover Hookshots, fairies, Ocarina songs, rods, shields, rupees, merchants, and other tools along the way.
Where the main journey begins
Look for the Temple of Time. Its sword-bearing shrine holds the Goddess Sword; use the shrine with an empty main hand to claim it. That sword is the starting point for the main upgrade path.
The three Sacred Flames
Each Sacred Flame comes from a different challenge and is used to strengthen the Goddess Sword:
Found at the end of the Farore Maze. It upgrades the Goddess Sword into the Goddess Longsword.
Earned at the Nayru Shrine. It upgrades the Goddess Longsword into the White Goddess Sword.
Earned by defeating the Fire Golem at the Din Arena. It upgrades the White Goddess Sword into the Master Sword.
From there, the Master Sword can continue into the Tempered and Golden Master Sword paths, with the Fierce Deity Sword and True Master Sword as later goals. See the full sword progression →
What you can find alongside it
A few things worth knowing
- The Sword Shrine is more than decoration. It is used for displaying and repairing swords, Fairy Bow conversion, the True Master Sword ritual, and other special interactions.
- Most structures are meant to be discovered through exploration. If you are playing an existing world, new structures only have a chance to appear in newly generated chunks.
- The Ocarina song wheel defaults to O. Hold an Ocarina in your main hand before opening it.
- Magic is its own resource. Some weapons and abilities consume it, while Magic Jars restore it.
- Rupees are useful. They can be converted between values and are used heavily by the Goron merchant.
